An Order for Morning Prayer

We greet the Day

O Lord, open our lips:
and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be forever.
Amen.

Hear, O Israel

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.

This is the first and the great commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself.

There is no commandment greater than these.

Kyrie
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Collect
Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for the peace you give us. We ask that as we wait for all your promises to come true, that you would remain present with us. Help us today - and everyday- to worship you, to hear your word, and to do your will by sharing your peace with each other. We ask it in the name of the one who was born in Bethlehem. Amen

Song of the First-Born Colossians 1.15–20
Christ is the image of the unseen God, *
the first-born of all creation,

for in him were all things made, *
in heaven and on earth.

Through him and for him were all things made,
before all he exists, holds all things in one. *
The Church is his body, and he is its head.

He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; *
in all things he alone is supreme.

God made all his fullness to dwell in him, *
to reconcile through him all creation to himself,

everything on earth and everything in heaven, *
all gathered into peace by his death on the cross.

Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be forever. Amen.

Reading: Luke 3:1-6
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiber'i-us Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Iturae'a and Trachoni'tis, and Lysa'ni-as tetrarch of Abile'ne, in the high-priesthood of Annas and Ca'iaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechari'ah in the wilderness; and he went into all the region about the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God."

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the lands!
2     Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

3 Know that the Lord is God!
    It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him, bless his name!

5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Reflective Prayer
Lord, you are the light of the world.
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.
Heavenly Father, we long for your plan of rescue and redemption to be realized. Give us hearts that see Your beauty and wait in hope for You to make all things good and new again.
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.
May Your light and love shine brightly in our hearts, spreading hope and peace to those around us. Amen.

You are almighty, above and beyond everything. You are victorious. Darkness, sin and death are under your feet. You are holy, beautiful and full of love. How we adore thee. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power,
and the glory,
now and for ever.
Amen.

Concluding prayers
O come, O come, Emmanuel!
Redeem thy captive Israel,
that into exile drear is gone
far from the face of God’s dear Son.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, thou Dayspring bright!
Pour on our souls thy healing light;
dispel the long night’s lingering gloom,
and pierce the shadows of the tomb.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, thou Lord of David’s Key!
The royal door fling wide and free;
safeguard for us the heavenward road,
and bar the way to death’s abode.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

The Lord bless us and keep us. The Lord make his face shine on us and be gracious to us. The Lord look upon us with favour and grant us peace. Amen.

Let us bless the Lord:
Thanks be to God!

Night Prayer for FRIDAY

Our help is in the name of the Lord
who made heaven and earth.

O God, come to our aid.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,  is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleluia.

O Gracious Light
O gracious light pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of Life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

A period of silence for reflection on the past day may follow.

Most merciful God,
I confess to you,
before the whole company of heaven,
that I have sinned in thought, word and deed
and in what I have failed to do.
Forgive me and free me from my sins,
heal me by your Spirit
and raise me to new life in Christ. Amen.

Holy God, Holy and Mighty, Holy Immortal One,
have mercy on us and on all people of the world.

The Word of God

Psalm 31: 1-8,21-14

In you, O Lord, I seek refuge;  do not let me ever be put to shame;
    in your righteousness deliver me.
Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily.
Be a rock of refuge for me,  a strong fortress to save me.
You are indeed my rock and my fortress;  for your name’s sake lead me and guide me,
4  take me out of the net that is hidden for me, for you are my refuge.
5
Into your hand I commit my spirit;  you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.
You hate those who pay regard to worthless idols,  but I trust in the Lord.
7
I will exult and rejoice in your steadfast love,  because you have seen my affliction;
you have taken heed of my adversities,
8  and have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy;
you have set my feet in a broad place.
21
Blessed be the Lord, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me
when I was beset as a city under siege.
22  I had said in my alarm, “I am driven far from your sight.”
But you heard my supplications  when I cried out to you for help.
23
Love the Lord, all you his saints.  The Lord preserves the faithful,
but abundantly repays the one who acts haughtily.
24  Be strong, and let your heart take courage,  all you who wait for the Lord.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

Scripture Reading Matthew 7:7-11

Ask, Search, Knock

Jesus said“Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.  For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.  Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

The Nunc Dimittis (The Song of Simeon)

Save us, O Lord, while waking,
and guard us while sleeping,
that awake we may watch with Christ
and asleep may rest in peace.

1Now, Lord, you let your servant go in peace: •
your word has been fulfilled.

2My own eyes have seen the salvation •
which you have prepared in the sight of every people;

3A light to reveal you to the nations •
and the glory of your people Israel.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

Prayers
I give you thanks for the day that has passed
For blessings, for challenges, for your steadfast love.
I pray for those whom I love, especially those who need your love and healing presence.
I pray for all the people in this world who are lonely, helpless, desperate and in any kind of need,
Send your angels to minister and care for each person.

I lay my concerns at your feet knowing that you are already working for my highest good. I place my trust in you, heavenly Father, and clear my mind of any stress or worry.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

A Litany for the Night

O God of Grace, hear us.  Through your love and through the sacred heart of Jesus, we pray for all who need tonight your merciful love and protection.

For those who are seeking answers tonight, have mercy.

For all who are out tonight; the homeless, the hungry, the struggling, the lost and those contemplating ending their lives ; have mercy.

For those who minister to the friendless and needy, have mercy.

For those who work the night shift, for doctors and nurses, for EMTs, for police on patrol, for all who work while we sleep, have mercy.

For those who cannot find their way out of the darkness of sin and hate, have mercy.

For the sick and suffering, have mercy.

For those who are alone and afraid, have mercy.

For those who cannot sleep tonight, have mercy.

For those wrestling with anxiety and stress, have mercy.

For those who are grieving, have mercy.

For those facing their last night on earth, have mercy.

For protection for our homes, loved ones and every person and creature on this planet, have mercy.

In your mercy, Lord,  dispel the darkness of this night.
Let this household sleep in peace and at the dawn of a new day
we may, with joy, waken in your name. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen

The Prayer of Mary
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.
(Lk 1:46-55)

Let us bless the Lord:
Thanks be to God!
