The Community Catholic Church understands that the
teachings and received traditions of the Church contain centuries of practices
and interpretations of the Church Fathers and historical councils which have
overshadowed Jesus’ simple message of Love.We
respect the Bible as a source of spiritual truth, recognizing that
within it are not only the words of life but also inspired wisdom. The
Bible, then, is to be prayerfully studied and always interpreted in light of
Jesus’ core teachings, which may be more readily understood through the ongoing
efforts of modern theologians and scholars.
We hold a simple vision of theology and spirituality
based on the words and teachings of Jesus. Our theology is based on Jesus’
words in Matthew 22:36-40 and Mark 12:29-31: The Two Great Commandments.
We
apply these in accordance with Jesus’
new commandment (John 13:34), the beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-11) and the
parables, particularly the parable of the sheep and the goats (Matthew
25:31-46). Bearing in mind
Jesus’ loving welcome to all sinners,
minorities, and the outcasts of his day, we extend a loving welcome to all
Christians. The sacraments, including marriage and holy orders, are open
to all members of the church.
Remembering Jesus’ admonishment not to judge, we do not
profess that we alone hold the truth or that salvation is only for those who
believe as we do. Taking to heart his teaching that God in heaven will
give good gifts to those who ask, we believe that all who seek God will be
given light by which to find their way to God.
